Date: 23 September 2025
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM CEST
Format: Online (register to join)

Join us for the “Circular Bioeconomy Synergies” webinar — a collaborative online event uniting three pioneering EU projects dedicated to bio-based innovation: EMBEDED, MainstreamBIO, and RuralBioUp. Underway since June 2025, EMBEDED is just getting started. In this session, you’ll get a preview of its objectives and plans, along with insights into the achievements and practices of MainstreamBIO and RuralBioUp. This event is a unique chance to discover synergies, explore potential collaborations, and interact directly with project teams.

Agenda

  • 11:00 – Welcome

  • 11:05 – RuralBioUp: Main Achievements

  • 11:20 – MainstreamBIO: Main Achievements

  • 11:35 – EMBEDED Project Presentation

  • 11:55 – Open Discussion & Closure

Projects at a Glance

EMBEDED

The EMBEDED project — “Exploiting Modular Biochar and board production plants to locally transform waste from traditional agrifood, feed and forestry industries with regional demand” — launched on 1 June 2025 and runs until May 2028, funded under Horizon Europe. Over its 36-month duration, EMBEDED will pilot transforming agricultural residues (like olive pomace, grape marc, cork bark, and grass press-cake) into biochar and construction boards through modular units deployed across Portugal, Spain, Ireland, and Czech Republic. These by-products serve as long-term carbon sinks and help build resilient, local value chains.

MainstreamBIO

MainstreamBIO (Mainstreaming small-scale bio-based solutions across rural Europe) is a Horizon Europe project active across seven rural EU regions — Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands. It established regional Multi-actor Innovation Platforms (MIPs) to foster collaboration among diverse rural stakeholders. Key outputs include a digital toolkit for selecting suitable bio-based technologies and business models, a catalogue of innovations and nutrient-recycling practices, educational resources, and support services. The project accelerated over 70 market-ready bio-based products and solutions via 35 multi-actor partnerships.

RuralBioUp

RuralBioUp — “Empowering EU rural regions to scale up and adopt small-scale bio-based solutions” — is a Horizon Europe project running from October 2022 to September 2025. It established nine Regional Hubs across six EU countries (Italy, France, Romania, Czechia, Ireland, Latvia), each bringing together 30 stakeholders per hub. These hubs co-designed and implemented action plans across 18 value chains, supported over 1,000 innovators through networking and study visits, and fostered at least 50 new collaborations. They also developed RuralSpot, an accessible digital platform offering regional data on biomass, technologies, business models, nutrient practices, and funding opportunities.
